Interviews
Demonic Halocaust - Damien Necromencer
07/03/08 || Global Domination

GD note: Since we didn’t find any good pictures to use (or hardly
looked) of the band we decided to run this without such crap. That’s
kinda tr00 and shit anyways. This interview was done by
ex-staffer/cocksmoker Desolator. Over to him:
Demonic Halocaust have kept the black metal flame alive, while bringing something fresh to the genre. Their raw, powerful and hypnotic methods are not to be missed. Now, enjoy this interview with Damien Necromencer.
Global Domination: Evil hails mate and welcome to this unholy interview. First of all, total fucken salutations for the awesome music you sent me. “The Legions Of The Black Ice Fires” kills.
Damien: Unholy hails, Matt. Welcome to the lair of Demonic Halocaust. Thanks for the support, thanks for summoning us… This just the beginning.
There is so much to be explored on this album. I know this is because it’s a compilation of your demos.
Yes Matt, “Legions of the black ice fires” is a release of our last four EP’s, “Trappezorium”, “Where The Light Ends… The Darkness Rises”, “Unholy War” demo, and “Existence Erased”. We had a lot of material and this is like a best of Demonic Halocaust. The music on this compilation is a mix of many styles of us in transition to our newest sound we have perfected of extreme harsh melodic raw black metal with possession like vocals, eerie raw guitar workmanship with blurring blastbeats ultimately creating the diabolical sound we wanted.
What in particular inspired you to form this band and create music the way you do it? What are the band’s crucial influences?
For me I wanted to pay tribute to some of the best black metal bands of its day. I wanted to just create pure uncensored evil, a mix of every dark and brutal sound possible with truly black purposes behind its meaning. Collectively we all feel the same. My influences run deep with many bands and styles. Stutthof, Bestial Warlust, Satyricon, Dark Funeral, Unanimated, early Cradle, Dimmu Borgir, Burzum, Death, Cynic, Suffocation.
Eric is into Destroyer 666, Mayhem, Nile, Impaled Nazarene, Gorgoroth, Kataklysm, Napalm Death, Carcass, Deicide, Taake.
Criss is into the same things as me, well, Dark Throne, Dark Funeral, Burzum, Stutthof, Hell Hammer, Sadus, Morgoth, Sadistic Intent, Immortal, Immolation…. to name a few.
What are your thoughts on the black metal scene? Do you think it’s still going strong or suffering a bit?
Well I don’t feel the underground scene is that bad. There are many good bands out there, but instead of being more occult based its more human warriors of now fighting under the dark banner of Satan. Although the commercial scene there are bands out there who sold out in ways unforgivable for what they had done in opinion. For argument’s sake, Cradle of Filth tanked musically and changed into something many people feel let down about. Dimmu Borgir came out around the same time and didn’t change. They got much better. Bands progress and change to try to keep up with new times is why we choose not to have the overproduced quality nor aim for that perfection. We like it raw and brutal. I feel something is wrong if you can’t mosh to a black metal show or death metal.
I read somewhere on one of the Demonic Halocaust sites that your drummer has been playing for 19 years. That’s pretty fucken awesome, and it really shows in the music. What in particular inspired him to start playing drums?
Eric is a beast. The fucking guy mimics machine guns, trains, tornadoes, he is a very talented drummer. His influence spawned from the drummer of Bestial Warlust (Markus Hellcunt). That was his initial push to be explosive. Eric has many styles in him, ranging from jazz, fusion, death & black metal, where in most songs blastbeats are not always the many factor. But in his case, endurance mixed with complexity of his insane blast mixed in varying speeds, almost a very speed pulse of blast and off set timed fills really pushes me and Criss to be heavier. Eric likes doing twelve minute songs and we are going to do a 30 minute black metal song just because it hurts and is a great challenge for us.
Black metal fans and musicians tend to take the music very seriously, which definitely helps the music.
Well ultimately most black bands and fans not only do it for the sole reason of just being black metal. All of it has a purpose. Those that practice all the darker arts truly use the music as a form to capture their quest of knowledge, pursuits and basically fulfill the all corners of the transformation. Like anybody who is a pagan, satanist, demonologist, black druid, they despise catholicism and the followers of it. Not so much because they believe something different, but because catholics want to control all of society with their mind corrupting bull shit and pagans and satanist alike believe in a higher cause other than greed. Black metal in a sense is the sounds of what fans and bands truly feel and believe and unlike death metal, black metal holds and represents serious meanings. Satanism is not just a religion but a way of life and for those that practice it and follow the black ways are giving all the truth that must be known…
What are your thoughts on some of the crazy shit that has been associated with black metal? Like church burnings?
Hahahahahaha, well Matt, sometimes these things happen. This is a war. Many feel they are held back. Many were killed for their beliefs. This era it’s more personal now, kinda hard to forget how many were enslaved, killed off just for the religious beliefs. The Salem witch trials is just one of many true things that displays the control. Catholicism and the power of the corrupted, power of the church and thousands of other things. Satanists and pagans both want the catholic religion stopped and the corruption, lies and madness to end. Unfortunately no one hears them, so now the era of war of religions finally comes the last battle. There is a deeper purpose many don’t see.
I know black metal is totally against religion. What are your religious views?
I despise catholicism and catholics and anything pure…
If you were to have kids, and if they were to follow Christianity, how would that make you feel?
Hopefully they never fall prey to the lies of christianity, but to learn is to explore and travel all paths and from there in end the truth will come…
Have you guys got any plans to play live gigs or would you prefer to focus on your studio efforts?
Shows some dates, we would rather just keep blasting out evil black war metal albums but in the future, yes we will do shows.
Black metal embodies hate, so I was wondering what are some things you loathe the most?
Catholics, christians, catholic bible, humanity as considered an essence of power, materialistic snobs, false people, egotistical power struggles, sell outs. We are here for a purpose that’s not to be treated lightly.
What are your views on the future of humanity?
They will all be erased by their own doings. Seems very interesting to say the least.
On “Legions Of The Black Ice Fires”, what are your personal favourite songs?
Trappezorium”, “Imbolic Possession”, “Legions”, “Left Below”, “Black Wings Rising”.
Since you live in America, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the government, in particular, George Bush? What are your thoughts on the Iraq invasion?
Well for one like all countries have seen their days of bad leaders and great ones. Human tyrants don’t interest me much. For greed is there reasoning behind all they do and not for the benefit of as being a whole? The war in Iraq is just another classic case of catholicism trying to over power the world terrorism and militias. All seem to be terrifying to most but just like the crusades and holy wars of before, the story hasn’t changed and still nothing was realized why it happens. This is why it will continue on until the truth comes out and acceptance to that factor…
Also, while we’re on the topic, what are your thoughts on “anti American” people?
As Americans being anti American and outsiders feeling the same, it would seem many have many reasons to hate this country as well as others. If one doesn’t like their country, my answer to that would be leave or do not go there. And as secret groups who make a stand, attack us or other countries, still many do not realize it’s not a human element for their views and the pointless reasons that man has is not what the war was truly about for greed, lust, shear egos, popularity. Ultimately humans are all worthless efforts for there is no real cause in their battles amongst each other…
What’s your local scene like? Also, what things do you like and dislike about your town?
Waterbury Connecticut doesn’t have a scene. There are many bands throughout the United States. Great ones too, but rap, hip hop, nu metal, rock, grunge and other crap seems to engulf the real scene where more people are concerned about Britney Spears and what rapper will shoot another rapper and all the crap that goes with that. Then for people to be their own individual and actually break from the mold and do something different and actually be in a black metal band for they’re too concerned about mtv… We hope along with our fellow black metal bros out there across the US the scene will come back but as long as people listen to black metal there will be black metal bands.
Before we wrap this interview up, any final comments?
Well Matt thanks for the interview. Keep spreading the word. Our new album is done. “Shadows of the Winter Beings” just more satanic sick war metal for you all. Support the darkness, keep the evil mosh going for all that is dark and unholy. From the depths of their souls from the shadows possession shall engulf everyone from the legions of the black ice fires.
